For years, Michelle and I spent our weekends weaving through the valleys of Napa—chasing sunsets, sipping Cabernet, and building a blog called The Winetastic Weekend to remember it all. Those weekends were more than wine tastings—they were little time capsules of joy, discovery, and connection.
Life has changed since those early days. We’ve traded the regular Napa trips for a different rhythm here in Carmel. But while we may only get back to Napa once a year now, something magical happened recently: Napa came to us.
Our favorite winery—The Vineyard House—made its way to Carmel for a private event with friends, and it was everything we hoped it would be.
We hosted the evening at a beautiful venue that felt perfectly suited to the spirit of the wines: elegant, intimate, and effortlessly relaxed. And the wine... well, there’s a reason The Vineyard House has held a permanent place in our hearts (and our cellar) for more than a decade. Their Cabernet is soulful and refined—quietly powerful in that unmistakable Napa way. Sharing these wines with our friends, many of whom have always asked us, "When are we doing a Napa trip?"felt like the perfect way to bridge the past and present.
Michelle, in her signature way, captured the heart of the night—bringing back the voice and warmth of The Winetastic Weekend blog. It was a little nostalgic, a little celebratory, and above all, a reminder that wine isn’t just about place—it’s about people.
We may not make it up to Napa as often as we used to, but this night proved something important: sometimes, the best way to share what you love is to bring it home.
Oh yeah, and special thank you to Ryan Melcher for getting us access to this amazing property.
Cheers to great wine, old traditions, and making new ones in the places we now call home.
Alex & Michelle
